Hi all

Finally I caught up with the previous clues, I was so far behind due to work load...
So yesterday I took the evening "off" other duties and concentrated on the important things in life = Quilting!

So proof of clue 2 done:

This weekend I had to do some extra work, So I am a bit behind the schedule. All cut and some sewn, but I will continue soon.

Hence, today only a glance of my little helper. Tomorrow more sewing!

Looks like he accepted my quilt! We miss you, buddy!

Midsummernight flight Quilt

Time for my personal favourite at the moment.
The pattern is Bonnie Hunter Midnight flight from her book "More adventures with leaders and enders" and can be found here.

I named it Midsummernight flight for obvious reasons. I started at Midsummer and proceeded sewing on it during the nightless nights. After a little quilting and sewing break due to work, this was finally finished at the beginning of the year 2015.

The fabric was collected over a long time from everywhere I went, so they contain lot's of memories, too. The quilting was done as stitch in the ditch following the pattern.

Layer Cake Super Easy Quilt

This pattern is the Windmill Quilt pattern from the Moda Bakeshop. You can find the free pattern here. 

I used a Layer cake, which was waiting for its use and some more white Ikea ditte fabric, which I cut myself to layer cake sizes. There were more prints in the initial layer cake, then required for the design. I asked the receiver to pick out those fabrics, she wouldn't care for. Turned out, these were all the blue prints.

Oh man, I was so grateful for ASKING the receiver about her opinion. I almost made her a blue-turquoise quilt :D that would not have been well received :D

Anyway, the pattern was super easy and the top was whipped up in less then two days. The quilting was done with a diagonal serpentine stitch... and that's it. Fun and easy and quick.

Falling Charms Babyquilt

This quilt suits me very well. Almost rainbow coloured.
The blocks were sewn "leaders and enders" style and only the assembling was done in one go.
For this quilt I have used two moda- charm packs and white solid from ikea. Also the back side is the white IKEA ditte fabric. This whole projects was cheap cheap and fun fun.

Quilted with loop-di-loops and flowers.

Oh, and it is still waiting for a new owner in the closet :-)

Wonderful Light - Quilt Guilt competition

The theme for this year's competition of our guilt was "Wonderful light".
For the first time, I decided to participate. "In real life" I am a scientist, and I decided to bring this part into the quilt. So what is light? Light is an electromagnetic wave of a variety of wavelengths. It is seen as white. If passed through a prism, the wavelengths split and a rainbow of colours can be seen. And why is this a wonderful light? Because knowing the laws behind natures phenomena does not take away from their beauty. Light is beautiful and wonderful.
So this was basically the sentiment I wanted to capture in my quilt.

As the background I chose a variety of dark grey fabrics, sewn into small log cabin blocks. The light illuminates the darkness, seen by the lighter background, as well composed of light grey log cabins.

The initial light beam is represented by silver spheres of jersey fabric. (What exactly made my use sphere shaped? That took ages!) The light beam is passed through a "prism" of two and three layers of organza. The refracted light is indicated by rainbow coloured fabric triangles, appliquéd to the background.

Handquilted with little stars all over.

So here it is:

And now my slip-up. I interchanged the required width and length. It should be "portrait" but it is "landscape". -100 points for not reading the instructions...
So it was disqualified.

Oh well, on to a new try next year.

Weeping Angel Pillow

Here is a little farewell present for the colleague, who introduced me to the terrible wonderful madness of Dr Who. A Weeping Angel pillow. What irony... who would close their eyes and sleep on it?!
It was a free paper piecing pattern from this website. Love all her patterns, and it surely wasn't my last.

The pattern came together nicely, except this one slip of the left hand. But beware, it contained really lots of small pieces!
